Valentine’s Day is approaching, so why not embrace the occasion with sparkling elegance? Whether a cozy night in, a romantic dinner or perhaps a Galantine’s get-together, I have five selections of rosé effervescent fun for you to consider!
What is more romantic than the boundless love between Romeo and Juliet? And perfect for this occasion is Juliet Prosecco Rosé DOC. This pretty pink Prosecco is refreshing with steady bubbles, raspberry aromas, flavour, and a medium body. Juliet Prosecco Rosé DOC is a relatively new wine from the Veneto region of Italy and costs $15.85. Made from the indigenous varietals of Gleragrapes and Pinot Nero, serve as an aperitif with seafood, grilled vegetables and creamy cheeses.
Sparkling wine from Spain is called Cava. According to The Wine World Challenge, Segura Viudas Brut Rosé DO Cava is considered a Best Value Spanish Sparkling and sells for $14.40 in Ontario. It has a fresh strawberry aroma, soft berry flavours and a lingering finish. Segura Viudas Brut Rosé DO Cava is made mainly with Trepat, a rare red indigenous grape in north-eastern Spain and Garnacha. Serve this with quiche, seafood paella, roasted peppers and buffalo mozzarella.
Henry of Pelham Cuvée Catharine Rosé Brut VQA wine was created by the Speck brothers of Henry of Pelham in Niagara and is named in honour of Catharine Smith, the wife of Henry of Pelham. This award-winning sparkling wine is crafted from handpicked Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes using the traditional Méthode Champanoise. Henry of Pelham Cuvée Catharine Rosé Brut VQA is aged for at least 24 months, can be aged for a few years, or enjoyed now and sells for $32.95. This delicious sparkler has soft berry aromas and mild bubbles and pairs nicely with smoked salmon, grilled chicken, light tomato-based pasta dishes and mild-tasting cheeses.
Champagne, the quintessential wine of celebrations, is perfect for this special occasion. While most rosé Champagnes are north of $75, Victoire Rosé Brut Champagne is a bargain at $46.95! Always looking for great value, this is a personal favourite for special occasions. It is composed of 50% Pinot Noir, with the balance being Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Coteaux Champanoise Rouge. Victoire Rosé Brut Champagne has a deep rosé colour, aromas of citrus and berries and a lingering and soft finish. Serve with crab cakes, duck, fried mushrooms, and mild blue cheese.
The world’s best-selling rosé Champagne comes in a famous and distinctive bottle. Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Brut Rosé Champagne for $119.95 is one of my favourites. This Grandes Marques is from the region’s largest family-owned Champagne house. It has forward, toasty, berry aromas, raspberry flavours and a rounded, lingering finish. Savour Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Brut Rosé Champagne chilled in flute glasses with vegetable appetizers, roast duck, sushi and goat cheeses.
Sparkling rosé wine adds a shimmer and brightness to special moments. Cheers to a romantic and bubbly Valentine’s Day!
